Born into a family of Sudburians, Katie Pawluk grew up wanting to be a paleontologist and a musician. She started violin lessons at age three and has always enjoyed singing and composing little things. Quite accidentally, Katie moved from Vancouver, Canada to New York City in 2001 and began playing in the subways to earn a living. Most days, she would play at two or three different stations and spend a lot of time riding the trains. Katie heard so much music in the tunnels she realized that the world is full of wonderful musicians; she wanted to be one too. Katie started performing her own music in 2004 and released her first EP, “Let It Go” in 2006. She is currently working on a full-length album. Through various contacts Katie made in the subway, she has been able to play at Carnegie Hall and other major venues in New York, Europe and Asia. She has recently worked with artists such as Kanye West, The Silent League, Mark Morris Dance Group, Duncan Sheik, Stars Like Fleas, Goldsparkle and Ezra Reich. Ms. Pawluk plays a violin she bought herself from a guy in Richmond, B.C. while she was in high school. Her bow is not her own.
